Dress like Effy Stonem

Today, my sexy readers with excellent choice in blogs, I'm going to be addressing one of my favourite outfits of all time. The Effy Dress. The Effy dress, as I like to call it, is the dress warn by character Elizabeth Stonem from Skins on her first day of college. Myself and every other watcher (female and male) seemed to fall in love with it from the moment she stepped out of her car to when she bent over to get something out of a vending machine to show off her polka-dot high-waisted short shorts/underwear. Now if you don't know what outfit I'm talking about you can head to www.channel4.com/programmes/skins/4od where you can watch it. The episode is from Series 3, Episode 1, but if you live under a rock and haven't watch any episodes of skins, I highly recommend that you do that right this fucking instant. I promise you it is a lot more entertaining than reading this. I'M SERIOUS... go and watch it. Alternatively, here are some photos:

The outfit is grungey, daring and still fashionable despite the fact that the episode aired in 2009. Makes you feel old doesn't it?! Now aside from the statement-piece sheer dress, Effy punked it up with (as usual) layers and layers of necklaces, fish-net tights, chunky bracelets and black chunky boots. Now without further adue, here are some pieces that I think imitate the Effy dress and overall look really well that you can find still in shops and online.

The first place that I looked at was New Look. Now, I wouldn't think of New Look typically as the go-to place for fashion as I find the name 'New Look' is just a big, fat lie as it should be called 'Same Look', however they do have a lot of shapeless, simple and easy to pull off dresses that I thought Effy would most definitely wear.

Although incredibly simple, this Ax Paris Black Wet Look Sleeve Shift Dress is super versatile that can be dressed down with a shirt around the waist or, as Effy would, dressed up with plenty of silver jewellery, pearl necklaces and chunky bracelets. Was £30.00, now £18.00!

This Dark Blue Denim Tunic Dress would be great on its own (and with jewellery) for summer and would also look great under a khaki parka with white netted tights and a pair of Doc Martens for winter. £24.99!

A Navy Short Sleeve Check Tunic Dress has just the edge and grunge-look that Effy would have been dressed in. The boots in the photo are enough to punk it up but with excess amounts of jewellery and Effy's default smokey eye-makeup you could quite possibly rule the world. Only £19.99!

I feel that the colour of this shapeless dress is right up Effy's street and with the really simple ribbed neck detail, the whole ensemble looks effortless. Again, only £19.99.

Now back to the real world, it probably wouldn't be appropriate to have your underwear on show at college (unless you're that sort of gal) so a pair of hot-pants underneath would be essential. Plain black would be a good choice as 97% of the female British public already own them and they would be demure enough to not draw attention to your... dare I say it... BUTTOCKS.

These hot pants feature an elastic waist, faux leather and have a flattering design!
Or, if you're on a budget, Boohoo.com stock a lot of hot pants like below for a fraction of the price.

From what I know about girls (too much), they have a lot of jewellery. When aiming for the Effy look, just throw it all on. Alternatively, you could look for bulk deals of necklaces on Ebay.co.uk or swap some of your old clothes for other peoples bulk jewellery on Depop (an app similar to Ebay filled with girls who call each other sweet, hun and chick).

Now on to footwear. The good thing about boots are that they're season-less and can be worn all year round so you can feel less limited when splurging out on them. Right now, the theme for a good pair of boots include chunky block heels that I'm sure Effy would loveeeeeee! Here are a couple:

Slightly on the pricier side of life, but aren't these gorgeous?! I literally became pregnant when finding these and I will be naming the baby Effy. I AM IN LOVE.

Perfect to contrast with anything from a girly vintage dress to a pair of leather trousers, these boots are a statement staple. The faux crocodile skin looks amazingly textured and would definitely bag you plenty of compliments.

I hope you have enjoyed my little post on how you can look like a modern day Effy Stonem, now I am off to eat an egg sandwich.

Songs you should definitely now go and listen to:
